20 April 2011SIOUX CITY -- Lorena Kragel, 99, of Sioux City died Sunday, April 17, 2011, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Ken Schmidt officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Lorena was born Oct. 23, 1911, in Mapleton, the daughter of Alfred and Anna (Waderick) Fester.
She was united in marriage with Elmer Kragel, and this union was blessed with five children. The couple farmed in Missouri and later moved to Sioux City, where they opened and operated Kragel's Variety Store on the westside of Sioux City from the 1960s to the 1980s.
She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Sioux City.
Left to cherish her memory include her son, Ron and his wife, Shirley Kragel of Alcester, S.D.; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her son, Larry; and her three daughters, June Miller, Arlene Walker, and Shirley Kragel.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Mapleton Ambulance Service.
