1 May 2011MAPLETON, Iowa -- Janet Joy, 47, of Mapleton, formerly of Omaha, Neb., passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa due to an illness of cancer.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church at Onawa, with the Rev. John Sears officiating. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Janet was born March 5, 1964, at Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Arline (Hoffman) Joy. She was raised in Onawa and graduated from West Monona High School in 1982. She furthered her education at Buena Vista College and graduated in 1986 with a business degree.
Janet worked for several companies in Omaha before establishing Joy and Associates, a computer consultant company. Due to ill health, she moved to her parents' home in December 2010.
She was a member of the First Christian Church. Janet was an independent, generous and loving person. She loved animals and was a supporter of the Humane Society.
Survivors include her parents, Leonard and Arline Joy of Mapleton, and a brother, Jim Joy of Whiting, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Atlas and Elsie Joy and Ed and Ella Hoffman.
