UTE, Iowa -- LaVern B. Klaus, 79, of Ute died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, with the Rev. Ed Brandt officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Ute.

LaVern Bertha Klaus was born Aug. 12, 1931, at Ida Grove, Iowa, the daughter of William and Annie (Leutjens) Petersen. She grew up in the Schleswig, Iowa, area and attended school in the Grant and Morgan Townships.

On Aug. 24, 1952, LaVern was united in marriage to Loren Duain Klaus at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. They were blessed with two daughters. Following a severe illness, Loren died on Nov. 17, 1955. With the help of the family, LaVern successfully raised her daughters, working at various jobs in the community of Ute. After demonstrating her skills at working in home health care, she was hired full-time and worked for years as a homemaker-home health aide with the Monona County Department of Human Services and Public Health Nursing. LaVern enjoyed her retirement in her home in Ute and visiting her daughters in Wyoming.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid in Ute. She enjoyed the beauty of a red cardinal and had a passion for packaging and mailing gifts to her family whom she treasured.

Survivors include her two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Craig Hart of Ucross, Wyo., and Jeanine and Richard Bohlmann of Clearmont, Wyo.; five grandchildren, Eric Bohlmann and his fiancee, Courtney, Amy Vineyard and her husband, Toby, Joshua Hart and his fiancee, Christen, Tanner Hart and his wife, Brandi, and Chase Hart; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Taylor Bohlmann and Bronc and Brindle Vineyard.

Along with her husband, LaVern was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Tyler Hart; and two sisters, Lucille Streck and Delores Thompson.
