MAPLETON, Iowa -- Marlyn M. Ganzhorn, 89, of Mapleton passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Karen Garrison officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Marlyn Maxine (Steinhoff) Ganzhorn was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Holly Springs, Iowa, the daughter of William H. and Iris E. (Cox) Steinhoff. She grew up on the family farm outside of Holly Springs and graduated in 1939 from Holly Springs High School.

On Oct. 9, 1949, she and Dr. Harold Ganzhorn were united in marriage at Pender, Neb. The couple resided in Mapleton, where Dr. Ganzhorn was practicing medicine. Marlyn was a proud housewife and also helped at the clinic when needed. Harold passed away on July 26, 1990.

A member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, Marlyn was very active where needed and was a member of St. John's Church Ladies. She was also an advocate of volunteerism and helped at various community events in Mapleton.

Marlyn is survived by two sons and their wives, Bill and Charlene Steinhoff of Pelican Rapids, Minn., and Jack and Janet Steinhoff of Hornick, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Donna Ganzhorn of Mapleton; five grandchildren, Craig Hanson, Mandy Steinhoff, Robin Sebastian, Scott Steinhoff and Suzanne Kotula; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Theo "Bright" Zortman of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; a son, Dr. Jack Ganzhorn; and a grandson, Nick Steinhoff.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Marlyn's name.
