WHITING, Iowa -- Sarah Suzanne Brenden, 22, of Whiting passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Creighton University Medical Center at Omaha due to injuries suffered in a horse riding accident.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Congregational Church, UCC in Whiting, with the Rev. Reva B. Karstens officiating. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service at Onawa, Iowa.

Sarah Suzanne Brenden was born Jan. 3, 1988, in Onawa, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Suzanne (Loving) Brenden. She was raised in rural Whiting and graduated from Whiting High School in 2006. She attended the University of South Dakota and transferred to Western Iowa Tech Community College, where she received a veterinary assistant degree. She was enrolled to enter Iowa Western this fall to earn a veterinary technician degree. In addition to her schooling, she was employed at Bomgaars Farm Store at Sioux City for the last four years.

Sarah was a member of First Congregational Church, UCC in Whiting, American Legion Auxiliary, Whiting Rodeo Association and Loess Hills Saddle Club. During her school days in Whiting, she was active in sports, was on the honor society, was an active 4-H member and was chosen Whiting Rodeo Queen. Sarah was a hard worker, energetic, versatile, loved nature, the farm and animals, especially her dog, Leo. She especially enjoyed horses, participating in rodeos, horse riding and barrel racing. She attended a barrel racing clinic in 2009. She was easily likeable, friendly and willing to help anybody at all times. She loved all her family and had a special place in each of their hearts. She will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include her parents, Michael "Mike" and Suzanne Brenden of Whiting; her fiance, Matthew Henrich of Wisner, Neb., currently serving in the military in Iraq; a sister, Christy and her husband, Mat Goodvin of Sloan, Iowa; two brothers, Tracy Brenden of Bronson, Iowa, and Jason Brenden of Whiting; her grandmothers, Marvel Brenden of Whiting and Norma Loving of Albert City, Iowa; a niece, Kayla Brenden; a nephew, Justin Goodvin; aunts, uncles and their families, Rick and Sue Brenden of Sloan, Bob and Mavis Loving of Albert City and Dave and Barb West of Clive, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Maurice Brenden and Jerome Loving; a half brother, Michael Bert Brenden; and a nephew, Garret Goodvin.
