WHITING, Iowa -- Harriet E. Lunda, 68, of Whiting passed away peacefully Aug. 27, 2010, with her family by her side after her battle with cancer ended.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Onawa, Iowa, with Randy Gotto officiating. Burial will follow in Harrison Cemetery at Whiting. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Harriet was born April 14, 1942, in Lonsdale, Minn., the daughter of James and Helen (Ahlstrom) Richardson. She lived in Minnesota until her senior year of high school, when she moved to Whiting with her family.

In January 1961, she met the man who would become her best friend and husband, Maurice Lunda. They married on March 24, 1962. They were a devoted couple who were inseparable to the very end. They welcomed three daughters to this union, Lori, Debra and Suzette. Harriet lived for her children and was undoubtedly the best mother her girls could ever have imagined. She was the epitome of grace. She made all her girls' school clothes as well as their dresses. She grew her flower and vegetable gardens, cared for a large yard, canned all her own vegetables each year and trained her girls to value the importance of always caring for their families.

Her girls never had to worry about who would be there when they got home from school or who would take care of them. She and Maurice were a wonderful example of how a couple should live up to their marriage vows. Later in life, she was blessed when her daughters' marriages added two sons to her life, Rick and Jeff. Harriet loved all children, adored her many nieces and nephews, and one of her greatest joys in life was the long-awaited and anticipated arrival of her beloved grandchildren, Samuel and Nathanael.

Harriet was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and had served as a regular pioneer (full-time minister) for the last 25 years of her life. She trained her children and grandchildren to serve and love Jehovah God faithfully. Even to the last days of her life, she remained loyal and steadfast.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Maurice "Morey"; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lori and Jeff Ince, Debbi and Rick Wellenstein and Suzi Lunda; two grandsons, Samuel and Nathanael Ince; two sisters, Roberta Duzan and Dorothy Cooper; two brothers, Jim and Ed Richardson and their wives; mother-in-law, Margaret Lunda; many other beloved relatives; and her brothers and sisters in the truth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bill and Scotty Richardson; and her father-in-law, Arthur E. Lunda.
