.CASTANA, Iowa -- Juanita E. Burke, 84, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Castana, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with the Rev. Harvey Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Kennebec Cemetery at Castana. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Juanita Evelyn was born Dec. 16, 1925, at Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Luella (Parde) Lee. She was raised Lutheran in the Castana area and graduated from Castana High School.

Juanita and Ronald E. Burke were united in marriage June 16, 1946. The couple made their home in Castana, where they owned and operated Burke's Grocery and Meats. Ron passed away Jan. 8, 2006, at Whiting, Iowa.

She was a member of the Castana Community Church, Ladies Aid, Women's Federation and Grimsley Thayer American Legion Post 502 Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Terry and Elisa Burke of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a daughter, Wendy Bumann of Castana; five grandchildren, Tisha Burke, Robin (Frank) Ferguson, Chris Burke, Chelsee Bumann and Kylie Bumann; three great-grandchildren, Cayden Burke and Ethan and Grant Ferguson; and a sister, Ann Swenson of Soldier, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, Ronald, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael; and two brothers, Kenneth and Norman Lee.
