DANBURY, Iowa -- DeVilda M. Collins, 79, of Danbury died Friday, May 28, 2010, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in the Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday, with a rosary by St. Mary's Rosary Society at 3:30 p.m., and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury and Mapleton is in charge of the arrangements.

DeVilda Marie Collins was born April 13, 1931, on a farm near Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Baagoe) Neilsen. She attended country school and graduated from St. Patrick's Academy in Danbury with the class of 1948. She then attended Briar Cliff College in Sioux City for a year.

On Dec. 28, 1950, DeVilda was united in marriage to James 'Jim' Collins at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury. The couple farmed in the Danbury community until 1966, when they started Collins Feed Store in Danbury, which they continued to own and operate until retirement in 1994.

DeVilda was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury and St. Mary's Rosary Society, where she served as a past president. She was in the first class of Danbury E.M.T.s and served her community for years on the Danbury Ambulance. She was a member of the Danbury's Women Club as well as the Danbury Community Club. She enjoyed going to the casino and gambling, having taught her grandchildren a few card games. Her great-grandkids lovingly called her "GG" and she returned the emotion by referring to them as "the greats."

Survivors include her four children, Ed Collins and his wife, Deb of Sergeant Bluff, Donna Mohrhauser and her husband, Tom of Mapleton, Iowa, Ted Collins and his wife, Ann of Sergeant Bluff, and Tim Collins and his wife, Joan of Carrollton, Texas; nine grandchildren, Sarah Dreckman and her husband, Jason, Bill Mohrhauser and his wife, Franny, Luke Mohrhauser and his fiancee, Megan Armstrong, John Mohrhauser, Chris Collins and his wife, Kristen, Eran Collins and Jasmine Atteberry, Dan Conway and his fiancee, Michelle Swalboski, Cory Collins and Stephanie Collins; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Alec, Caleb, Brayden, and Alyssa Dreckman and Bennett Mohrhauser; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and a very special friend and neighbor, Nadine Plautz.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters and their husbands, Delphine and Ed Meier and Loretta and Vincent "Bud" Meier.
