.MOORHEAD, Iowa -- George Wilbur Moorhead, 78, of Moorhead died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church in Moorhead. Inurnment will be in Spring Valley Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine, Iowa.

George was born May 17, 1932, to Wilbur Page and Ethel (Timm) Moorhead in Sioux City. He was raised in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1950. He then attended Iowa State College for two years. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

After his honorable discharge, he met Darline McCall, and the two were married on July 29, 1956. The couple farmed for many years and then in 1986, they trucked as a team. They both retired from trucking in 1999.

George was baptized and a lifelong member of the Moorhead Christian Church, and he held many positions in the church. He was a board member of the Moorhead Co-Op, FSA and Farm Business Association. He was on the advisory board for Pro Farmers of America and 4-H club leader. He was a member of the Peter A. Hanson Post 365, the Moorhead Masonic Elk Lodge 586, the Loess Hills Landowners Association, director of the Moorhead State Bank and a Sioux Township trustee and clerk.

He is survived by his wife, Darline of Moorhead; two sons, David Moorhead and his wife, Jeannie and Paul Moorhead and his wife, Cyndi, all of Moorhead; one grandson, Johnathan Moorhead of Moorhead; three stepgrandchildren, Jesse Schmidt of Omaha, Neb., Danny Schmidt of Moorhead, and Kathryn and her husband, Tom Rhymer of Sioux City; four great-stepgrandchildren; a sister, Catherine and her husband, Gerald Webb of Bremerton, Wash.; and may other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Julie Marie Moorhead; and a sister, Marilyn Moorhead.
