ONAWA, Iowa -- Eva Rounds, 91, Onawa passed away Sunday, May 31, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Duane Queen officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to rushfamilycareservice.com.

Eva was born Nov. 28, 1918, on her parents' farm in rural Turin, Iowa, the daughter of Soren and Kathryn (Baker) Rounsborg. She attended country school in rural Turin before graduating from Onawa High School in 1936. Eva received her bachelor of science in education from Morningside College. She taught at Grant Center and St. Clair Township country schools and Whiting Community School for more than 20 years.

Eva and Vern Rounds were united in marriage on June 25, 1939, at her parent's home. The couple made their home in Onawa. Vern passed away Dec. 7, 1989, in Sioux City.

She was a longtime active member of First Christian Church in Onawa and Queen Esther Chapter 222 Order of the Eastern Star, where she received her 50-year pin.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Kathryn and John Johnston of rural Castana, Iowa, and Bonita and Alvin Granite of Woodbury, N.J.; six grandchildren, Mark (Julie) Johnston of Sioux Falls, S.D., Anne (Marty) Hansen of Turin, Jennifer (Ryan) Ruth of Onawa, Christina (Brett) Davis of Mapleton, Iowa, Nicole (Larsen) Orehotsky of Gilbertsville, Pa., and Abigail (Daniel) Cunning of Swedesboro, N.J.; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Elizabeth Sue; a brother, Harl Rounsborg; and two sisters, Hazel Roehlke and Gretchen Peterson.
