ONAWA, Iowa -- Harvey H. Hansen, 87, of Onawa passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Turin United Methodist Church in Turin, Iowa, with the Rev. Angela Gafford Asmus officiating. Private graveside services will be at a later date in Ingemann Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Harvey Harold Hansen was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Turin, the son of Hans and Martha (Larson) Hansen. He attended Brown Country School south of Turin and later joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. He served in the South Pacific during World War II until his discharge in 1946.

Harvey and Thelma Wickersham were united in marriage on Feb. 26, 1948, in Onawa. The couple made their home near Turin, where Harvey was a lifelong farmer and also worked for the A.S.C. a number of years.

He was a member of Turin United Methodist Church and Struble Rowland American Legion 702. He enjoyed reading, NASCAR and had a keen interest in World War II history. Harvey loved animals especially cats and always had a pet dog companion.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Onawa; three children, Kathleen M. (Paul) Fellenz, Gary M. (Barb) Hansen and Douglas Hansen (Dan Warren); five grandchildren, Molly, Erin, Seth, Lisa and Jeff; and six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Jordan, Noah, Hunter, Leaf and Isaac.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, David; three brothers, Nels, Irvin and Art; and four sisters, Bess Fredrickson, Marian Keith, Pearl Mathison and Ada Erickson.
