21 October 1993Mildred Wilma (Struble) Amundson of Lamoni, Iowa died October 8, 1993 at the Regency Health Center in Olathe, Kansas (where she was a resident) at the age of 93 years, four months and five days. She was born June 3, 1900 in Monona County, Iowa, one of eleven children of parents Ira Edward and Effa (Pembrook) Struble.
After graduating from high school, she studied at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and taught at one of the rural grade schools.
Mildred was married August 13, 1919 to Alma Victor Amundson. They resided on a farm near Soldier, Iowa until relocating to near Lamoni, Iowa in 1921. They continued a vocation in agriculture for the duration of their working years. To this union three children were born; sons Veryl and Ronald, and daughter Athel.
Mildred was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and faithfully supported the activities and teachings that it stood for. She especially enjoyed working with the younger youth groups, sharing with them her faith and knowledge to help set guidelines to the future.
She also enjoyed associating with many other groups, helping with 4-H work, gardening, quilting, cooking and assisting with numerous charitable activities.
Mildred enjoyed her home in Lamoni and the many friends she had come to know before she fell and broke her hip in July 1989. As she recovered from this set-back, it was found that she needed more professional care and came to reside at the Regency Health Care Center in Olathe, Kansas in May 1990.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Alma; one son Ronald; three sisters and their husbands; Floris and Chester Davis; Cheila and Charles Davis; Blanche and William Atkins and John Poulosky; two brothers, Lloyd Struble and Warren Struble and his wife Leora; her sister Jennie’s husband, Bruce Noftsger; and her daughter Athel’s husband Lawrence Rush.
Survivors include her son; Veryl Amundson and wife Dorothy of Prairie Village, Kansas; one daughter Athel Rush of Kennewick, Wa.; six granddaughters; Kim and Bob McElroy of Norfolk, Ne., Ferryl and Don Cash of Troy, Kansas; Valerie and Kent Meeker, Jeanne and Ron Rada, Laura and Alex Buxbaum, all of Kennewick, Wa.; Mary and Steve Cauthon of Noblesville, In; one grandson Stephen Amundson of Kansas City, Kansas; great grandchildren; two sisters; Jennie Noftsger of Lamoni, Iowa and Thelma and husband Eddie Miller of Castana, Iowa; her brother Lloyd’s wife, Lucille of Onawa, Iowa; three brothers; Edward Struble and wife Ethel of Onawa, Iowa; Conn Struble and wife Gwendolyn of Denver, Co; and Ivan Struble of Castana, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. October 12, 1993 at the Lamoni R.L.D.S. Church in Lamoni, Iowa with Elder Bill Ballantyne officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni. Arrangements were made through the Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home of Lamoni, Iowa.
