Orson Babe, 93, long time Pisgah resident, died Friday, January 22
Funeral services were here Tuesday, January 26 for Orson Babe 93, of Pisgah, who passed away January 22, at the Elmwood Care Center in Onawa.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Family Catholic Church with words of comfort by Msgr. Richard E. Zenk. Organist was JoAnn Hodgson with selections, “In the Garden,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Casket bearers were Wesley Hall, James Morrow, Maynard Christensen, Gary Shearer, Michael Carson and Charles Holben. Final resting place was Littler Sioux Cemetery.
A visitation with the family and Wake service were held Monday at the Hennessey-VanCleave-Hurley Funeral Home in Missouri Valley.
He was born January 22, 1900 in Pisgah to Thomas and Eliza Burns Babe. He was married to Ila Sells in August of 1919. Orson had lived his life in the Pisgah area and was a barber in Pisgah for 60 years. He coached little league and town baseball teams and was an avid baseball fan.
Survivors include one daughter, Bernadine Hanson of Pisgah; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ila, daughter Naomi, son Loren, one sister, five brothers and one grandson.
