Arnold C. Babbe 81, of Mapleton died Thursday, July 24, at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. John’s United Methodist Church. The Rev. Louis Aitken officiated. Burial was in the Heistler Cemetery under direction of the Walter Funeral Home.

Mr. Babbe was born January 16, 1899 to John P. and Margaret (Kuhl) Babbe near Danbury.

He married Hazel L. Davis December 15, 1931, at Dakota City, Nebraska. They farmed five miles east of Mapleton until 1956, then moved to Denison where they owned and operated a café and tavern two years. They returned to Mapleton in 1958 where they owned and operated a tavern for several years.

He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Survivors include the widow one son, Gilbert, his wife, Marilyn, and granddaughters, Carla, Mrs. Randy Welch of Webster City, 5owa, Cathy of Sioux City, Iowa, Carrie, Cheryl and Chana of Mapleton, Iowa; and one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Wacker of Ida Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.
