Veta Pauline Allen, 85, died December 14, 1997 in Sioux City, Iowa.

Veta Pauline was born August 27, 1912, at Mapleton, Iowa the daughter o Albert C. and Ana Lorene (Lee) Wiggs. She graduated with the Mapleton High School Class of 1931.

On August 6, 1932, Veta was united in marriage to Earl “Bud” Allen at Dakota City, Nebraska. The couple farmed in Monona and Woodbury Counties at Smithland and Hornick from 1933 until 1977 when they retired and moved into Mapleton. Bud died May 24, 1990.

Veta was a member of the Faith Bible Church in Mapleton and had served as a Sunday School teacher.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include one son and his wife, Richard and Maria Allen of North Sioux City, South Dakota; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Allen of Hornick, Iowa; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren along with many other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Along with her husband Veta was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, an infant Raymond and Jimmy.

Services were held Wednesday, December 17, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at the Armstrong Chapel, Mapleton, Iowa, with Pastor Mark Smeltzer officiating. Marie Whiteing, organist accompanied soloist Bob Paulsrud in the selection “How Long Has It Been?” and “Amazing Grace.”

Pallbearers were Dan Castle, Loren Bainbridge, Duke Pritchard, Jim Castle, Jim Brodersen and Bob Paulsrud.

Interment was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa, with arrangements by the Armstrong Funeral Service.
