Lena Marie Andersen, 90, of Onawa, daughter of Anders Peter and Stena Villisen Ollgaard, was born April 14, 1880 in Strelley, Denmark. She came to the United States in 1900 with her brother.

They settled in the state of Minnesota. After a few years, Lena visited in Moorhead, where she met and later married Nels P. Andersen on April 20, 1906 at their home near Soldier.

Mrs. Andersen had made her home on the farm at Soldier for 46 years. Mr. Andersen passed away in 1944, and in 1950 Lena moved to Onawa, where she had made her home for the past 21 years.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Onawa and for many years had been a great lover of God’s creation, the flower. Her ability to make better, a sickened plant, never ceased to amaze her friends. Her love for flowers and the admiration of her friends for her work with them gained her the special name to them as “The Violet Lady.”

Mrs. Andersen passed away Friday, March 5, 1971 at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa after a lingering illness.

She is survived by a daughter, Miss Olga Andersen of Onawa; two sons, Axel J. of Charles City and Harry O. of Soldier; two sisters in Denmark and five grandchildren.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 8, 1971 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Onawa with Pastor Gerald Gunderson officiating. Mrs. Willie Jensen sang “Trust and Obey” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” accompanied at the organ by Clara Kelley.

Bearers were Myrland Clemon, Milford Hanson, Oscar Foss, Casper Pohlman, Robert Jensen and Richard Paseka. Interment was in Jordan Cemetery near Soldier with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa.
