6 September 1999Walter N. Andersen was born April 10, 1915 at Brazile Mills, Nebraska and passed from this life in a Sioux City Hospital on Friday August 24, 1979. Death came following a brief illness he had reached the age of 64 years.
On April 4, 1944 he was united in marriage with Jean Boughn in Sioux City, to this union two children were born.
Walter served as the manager of the Berry Lumber Company in Onawa, Iowa for 25 years. In 1973 he retired and moved to Randolph, Nebraska.
He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Randolph VFW Post 5545, the American Legion Post 113, and the Masonic Golden Sheaf Lodge number 202, Walt received while in action in the army of our country. The Silver Star and the Bronze Star decoration. Recently he received the “Good Neighbor citation by the Knight of Ak-Sar-Ben. He was listed in the Who’s Who in Nebraska Bicentennial Edition of notable Nebraskans. Walter served as mayor od Randolph, retiring in December 1978. Early in life he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.,
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Randolph; his daughter Andrea Linder of Norfork, Nebraska and son Hugh of Randolph; and one sister Mrs. G.M. (Kamma) Mumm of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Services were held Monday August 27, 1979 at 2:30 p.m. in the Johnson’s Funeral Chapel Randolph, Nebraska with Rev. Everett E. Epperson officiating.
Mrs. Neil Lackas, soloist sang “In The Garden” accompanied by Mrs. Douglas Olawsky.
Casket bearers were John S. Berry, Zach Boughn, Leo Moes, Ed Kessler, Roy Gibson, David Winkelbauer.
Interment was in the Randolph City Cemetery, Randolph, Nebraska with military rites by VFW Post No. 5545 American Legion Post No,. 113 Randolph, Nebraska.
