29 September 1988Kenneth Dean Adkins, 51, Little Sioux, Iowa, died Monday, September 19, 1988, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa.
He was born July 28, 1937, at rural Onawa to Harold Eugene and Bernadine (Hedges) Adkins. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army. He had been employed with H.R. Hoak in Des Moines and E. A. Pederson in Omaha and currently was employed with L&M Construction in Omaha.
Survivors include five sons, Greg of Onawa, Gordon of Chappell, Nebr., Jeff of Sioux City, Victor of Austin, Texas, and Eugene of Lubbock, Texas, three daughters, Debbie Reynolds of Sioux City, Pam Vik of Marshall, Minn. and Kenna Anderson of Jackson, Minn., his mother, Bernadine Adkins of Onawa, two sisters, Shirley Dingman of Emporia, Kansas and Charlotte Hughes of Ellenwood, Kansas and eighteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, his brother, Edward, a grandson, John Marshall Adkins, and a daughter, Melissa Kay Adkins.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 1988 at the Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Mrs. Steven Johnson the organist, played “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Bearers were Hugh Grimes, Jr., Albert Morlan, Chris Eyberg, Tom Vaughn, Roy Beebe and George Beck.
Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with Military Graveside Services by Monona County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2684, Onawa, Ron Heisterkamp, Commander.
Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa.
