Esther Irene Davis Barney 1916-2010

Esther Irene Barney was born March 29, 1916 at Ute, Iowa, the daughter of Charles H. and Pearl (Kelly) Davis.

Esther and Dean J. Barney were united in marriage in Onawa. One son, Farrell Dean was born to this union. They lived on a farm south of Onawa over 60 years, where she enjoyed country life, the birds and her flowers. She was office manager at Burgess Memorial Hospital for many years until her retirement in 1981. Dean passed away in 1984.

She was a member of First Christian Church and was an active member on the Council, Circle and other church activities. Esther was a 50 year member of Queen Esther Chapter #222 Order of the Eastern Star in Onawa and also Friends of the Library.

Survivors include her son, Farrell of Aurelia, IA; two granddaughters and their husbands, Pam and Kevin Sligar of Monett, MO and Patty and Tenner Lilland of Estherville, IA; a great granddaughter, Haleigh Sligar; a great grandson, Drew Sligar and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Dean, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Barney; two sisters, Lucille Struble and Leona Richardson and four brothers, Edward, Dwight, Lynn and Phillip Davis. (Date of death, 18 Oct, 2010, Onawa, Iowa; interment in the Onawa Cemetery)
