WHITING, Iowa -- Alvina Louise Percival, 90, of Whiting passed away Friday, April 23, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, UCC at Whiting, with the Rev. Reva B. Karstens officiating. Burial will be in Whiting City Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Alvina Louise was born March 18, 1920, at Albaton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles E. and Evelyn S. (Bergstrom) Dahl. She was raised in the Albaton and Sloan, Iowa area and attended country school at Albaton.

Alvina and Glen Cephus Percival were united in marriage June 18, 1938, at Sloan, Iowa. The couple made their home in Whiting, Iowa, where Alvina became homemaker and mom and Glen did carpentry. The couple loved to fish and go on picnics, and they spent a lot of time doing just that. Later they moved to Minnesota, where they owned and operated a fishing resort until their retirement. After selling the business, they lived on a small farm in Minnesota, where Glen again was engaged in carpentry before relocating to Onawa, Iowa, in 1984. Glen passed away April 11, 1985 at Onawa. After his death, Alvina moved to Whiting.

She was a member of First Congregational Church, UCC at Whiting and the Whiting American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Garry (Janet) Percival of Moss Point, Miss.; three daughters, Joleen McCandless of Challis, Idaho, Debbie (Randy) Lamb of Prescott, Ariz., and Glenda (Bruce) Fells of Palmyra, Neb.; 10 grandchildren, Kaleen, Korey, Kyla, Karen, Laurie, Steven, James, Tara, Toni and Tracy; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Glen, she was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Evelyn; an infant daughter, Neva Percival; a son-in-law, Donnie McCandless; a grandson, Kirby McCandless; and a brother, Oscar Dahl.
