HORNICK, Iowa -- John H. Skow, 83, Hornick passed away Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center at Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rush Family Chapel at Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Garrison officiating. Burial will be in Grant Cemetery at Ticonic, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Henry Skow was born Feb. 22, 1927, on the family farm in Tom King Hollow at Hornick, the son of Elmer and Anna Margaret (Jensen) Skow. He attended school at Rodney, Iowa. He and his brother, Glen, farmed with their dad. His address was always Hornick and he lived in Grant Township in Monona County all of his life and served as trustee many years.

He worshiped the Lord in the Ticonic Methodist Church, enjoyed the fellowship of his friends and was a regular guy in the Feed Store in Smithland, Iowa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with family and friends. John's nieces and nephews were his joy; always encouraging them to share the good life through hard work and play.

Survivors include a sister, Carrie Johnston of Mapleton, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Cosh of Hornick; six nieces and nephews, Joe (Sue) Skow of Spencer, Iowa, Carol (Wayne) Luber of South Sioux City, Marilyn (Steve) Longlee of Hornick, Melvin (Ruth Ann) Johnston of Smithland, Earl (Julie) Johnston of Mapleton and Dawn (Greg) Claus of Smithland; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glen; and a niece and her husband Margaret Ann (Johnston) and Ronald Maynard.
