MAPLETON, Iowa -- LaVera E. Jacobson, 82, of Mapleton passed away on March 22, 2010, in Mapleton.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Karen Garrison officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

LaVera Elnora (Jensen) Jacobson was born on May 25, 1927, to Chris and Lois (Ridley) Jensen, in Ute, Iowa. She grew up in Ute, graduating from Ute High School.

LaVera was united in marriage to Dale Jacobson on Dec. 11, 1948, in Sioux City. Along with being a housewife, she worked with Dale at Jacobson Brothers where she was the bookkeeper. Dale died on July 14, 1981. LaVera and Donna Skow joined forces and owned a beauty shop for a time.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton.

LaVera is survived by a son, Philip Jacobson and wife, Cindy of El Dorado, Kan.; six grandchildren, Shaun Billmaier of Carroll, Iowa, Kenton Jacobson of Mapleton, Darin Jacobson of Mapleton, Chris Divis of Sioux City, Jason Divis of Topeka, Kan., and Brittney Divis of Mapleton; her great-grandchild, Jersey Divis of Mapleton; her brother, LaVerne Jensen and wife, Margie of Waverly, Iowa; and nieces, nephews and cousins, Richard Albertson, Laurita Albertson, Donna Jacobson, Duane Jacobson, Dee Ann (Jacobson) Paulsrud, Debra (Jacobson) Ernst, Bruce Jacobson, Pat Petersen, Pam Clausen, Sheldon Jacobson, Lynette Jacobson and Bernice Miller.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Jacobson; her parents, Chris and Lois (Ridley) Jensen of Ute; her in-laws, Ira and Emma (Christiansen) Jacobson of Mapleton; two sisters-in-law, Darlene (Jacobson) Burke of Mapleton and Martha Marian Jacobson of Sioux City; three brothers-in-law, Harold Jacobson of Sioux City, Donald Jacobson of Mapleton, and Arwood Albertson of Oregon; a niece, Arlis Albertson; and a nephew, Mickey Albertson.
