ONAWA, Iowa -- Lois E. (Brink) Hess, 94, Whiting, Iowa, formerly of the Onawa, Anthon, Castana and Denison, Iowa, areas, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Castana Community Church at Castana, Iowa, with the Rev. Harvey Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Lois Evelyn was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Maude (Turner) Stephenson. She was raised in the Denison area and graduated from Dow City High School.

Lois and Rolla Brink were united in marriage on Dec. 3, 1936, and made their home in the Denison area before moving to Castana, where they farmed until Rolla's death on July 7, 1978.

On Aug. 15, 1981, Lois and Clifford R. Hess were united in marriage in Castana and made their home in Anthon, Iowa. The couple moved to Onawa in 1999. Clifford passed away April 30, 2004. Lois enjoyed her home in Onawa until recently moving to Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

She was a member of Castana Community Church and the Ladies Aid and also the Birthday Club. She enjoyed reading, cooking, ceramics, square dancing and traveling.

Survivors include her children, Bill and Kathy Brink of Onawa, Ardel Brink and Peggy Lyon of Centennial, Colo., Gary and Sherrie Brink of Alexandria, Minn., Roger and Susie Brink of Onawa and Patty Brink and Barb Webb of Chetek, Wis.; her stepchildren, Joe and Carolyn Hess of Cedar Falls, Iowa, John and Carmen Hess of Moville, Iowa, and Vicki Hess of Rock Island, Ill.; six grandchildren, Sandy (Rod) Jepson, Cathy (Joe) Marsh, Michael Brink, Jill (Mike) Olig, Julie (Ed) Collison, Toni (Dwight) Clayton; many stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Mock Stormer, Kevin and Dustin Mock, Ashley Walker Reichart, Anna Jepsen, Jackson, Madison and Samuel Marsh, Will Olig, Charles and Becky Collison and Tyler, David and Jacob Clayton; a brother, Edgar Stephenson of California; and a sister, Inez Busch of Des Moines.

In addition to her husbands, Rolla Brink and Clifford Hess, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; four sisters; a granddaughter, Sheryl Mock Galbraith; a grandson, Steve Brink; and a stepson, Charles Hess.
