2 May 2010ONAWA, Iowa -- Donald "Don" E. Swanson, 70, Onawa, formerly of Omaha, passed away Friday, April 30, 2010, at Elmwood Care Centre at Onawa.
Don's wishes were to be cremated. There will be a family gathering at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service at Onawa. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.rushfamilycareservice.com .
Don was born Dec. 20, 1939, in Whiting, Iowa, the son of Arthur J. Swanson Sr. and Amelia (Fisher) Swanson. Don attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Neb., in 1957.
He was a member of the Omaha Fire Department for more than 20 years. Don worked for Sears, and then for Layne Western Drilling Company of Omaha. Upon retirement, he moved to Whiting and then to rural Sloan, Iowa. He had lived in Onawa for the past several years.
He is survived by his daughter, Annie Loftman of Omaha; his son, Anthony (Tony) Swanson of Omaha; grandchildren, Jaydn Loftman, Brynn Loftman, Anessa Loftman and Morgan Swanson; two brothers, William F. Swanson and his wife, Nancy of Las Vegas, Nev., and Tony Swanson and his wife, Betty of Sloan, Iowa; a half sister, Jeanette of Lincoln, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
