SLOAN, Iowa -- Gary E. Wilen, 76, of Sloan died on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, with the Rev. Richard Moore officiating. Interment will be in Albaton Cemetery near Sloan. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Gary was born on Aug. 5, 1933, near Whiting, Iowa, the son of Roland and Flossie (Ping) Wilen. He attended country schools. Gary served his country as a member of the U.S. Army.

He was united in marriage with Ramona Raines on March 31, 1961, in Logan, Iowa. The couple lived in the Sloan and Whiting area, where they farmed. Gary also worked for the Fountain International Harvester dealership for a few years.

Farming and spending time with his family were the most important things in his life.

Gary will be missed by his family which includes his loving wife, Ramona of Sloan; his two stepsons, Tom Mace of Sloan, and Steve Mace (Rita) of Girdwood, Alaska; two sisters, JoAnne Roberts of Whiting, and May Alice Clayton of Oregon; nine stepgrandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
