23 July 2010SIOUX CITY -- Wayne LeRoy Ferguson, 69, of Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died April 7, 2010, at the Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Peters, chaplain for the 185th Air Refueling Wing, Iowa Air National Guard, officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Naval Reserves. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to christysmith.com.
Wayne was born Dec. 12, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of Donovan "Bud" and Izetta (Blades) Ferguson. He attended Sioux City public school and graduated from Central High School mid-term 1958. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War as an AEMC aircraft electrician onboard several aircraft carriers.
Following his military service, he returned to Sioux City and was employed in the technical service field with various companies in the area.
Wayne had a fond love of music. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially when a Cribbage game, that included a friendly wager, was in order.
Survivors include two sons, Terry of Vermillion, S.D., and Keith of Oak Harbor, Wash.; two daughters, Joanna of Oak Harbor and Michelene of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Gayle (Clark) Kleinberg of South Sioux City; two brothers, Doug (Linda) of La Costa, Calif., and Tom (Terri) of Fresno, Calif.; his grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary; and a nephew, Jeffrey Kleinberg.
