Wayne Elbert Lee, 89, Lawrence, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 16, 1914, in Blencoe, Iowa, the son of Charles Lee and Maude (Russell) Lee.
Mr. Lee moved to Omaha and worked at the Goodyear plant. He later worked as a paymaster in Alaska during construction of the Al-Can Highway. He then began a career as a sales manager for the Allied Van Lines agent in Omaha, retiring in 1984 after 30 years.
He served as an elder in the Florence Christian Church and the Fort Street Christian Church, both of Omaha. He was a 32nd degree Mason; a member of the Masonic Lodge of Omaha; Toastmaster's International; and the Omaha Fish & Wildlife Club.
He moved to Lawrence in 1993, and volunteered with the Roger Hill Volunteer Center and ICaN. He was a resident of Brandon Woods.
He married Doris Call in 1935. She died in 1978. He married Jeanne Rybin in 1979. She died in 1989. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon Lee and Ralph Lee.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Lee of Lawrence, and Roger Lee of Leavenworth; a daughter, Lynnea Wheeler of Spring Hill; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, Iowa.
