Edith Habinck, age 87, of Mapleton died Wednesday, August 2, 1995, at her home in Mapleton.
Services were held 2:00 p.m. Monday at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Mapleton with Pastor Sheryl Ashley officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mapleton. Music for the service was provided by Bob Barry, organist and soloist. Songs chosen were “Because He Lives”, “Amazing Grace” and “May The Good Lord Bless and Keep You”. A prayer service was held Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the Walter-Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton.
Edith Vera Habinck was born January 22, 1908, at Kennebec, Iowa, the daughter of John W. and Ida (Randall) Thompson. She married Percy Habinck, March 1, 1924, at Sioux City, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Anthon and Mapleton areas. They moved to Arizona in 1974 for a period of 5 years moving back to Mapleton. Percy died January 2, 1995.
Edith was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Mapleton, along with the Women’s Society, Circle and Church Choir there. She was also a member of the Mapleton Camping Club.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Fern and Elwood Buttery of McAlester, Oklahoma; a niece, Etta Waples of Axtell, Kansas; a cousin, Loretta Rose of Onawa and a sister-in-law, Ada Habinck of Mapleton.
Besides Percy, her husband, Edith was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Ida Thompson, three brothers, Bob, Bill and Bert Thompson, and two half-brothers, Jack Thompson and Roy Davis, and a half-sister, Effie Cocanaugher.
Pallbearers were Tom Sanford, Leonard Sanford, Larry Miller, Leonard Reinbold, Myron Rozell and Arnold Fick.
Arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
