Mrs. Maxine Funkhouser, a lifelong resident of the Whiting, Iowa community, passed away suddenly on January 28, 1976 at the age of 62 years, 3 months and 30 days.
Maxine was born on September 29, 1913 at Whiting, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Glen Funkhouser on September 14, 1935 at Sioux City, Iowa. She was a president of the Willing Workers of Whiting, a 4-H leader and a member of the TOPS of Whiting, Iowa. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Onawa, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Glen of Whiting; one son, Richard Funkhouser of Anthon, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Monte (Peggy) Kron of Onawa, and Mrs. Russell (Judy) Mieras of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; her mother, Mrs. Carrie Stoupl of Sloan, Iowa; five half-brothers and three half-sisters. She was preceded in death by her son, Clifford and two grandsons, Matthew and Eugene Mieras.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 30 at the United Methodist Church of Onawa, with Rev. John Schlosser officiating. The organist, Clara Kelley accompanied the duet sung by Nancy and Kay Brenden. The selections were “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Pallbearers were Alton Morton, Darrel Kron, Robert Albright, Gary Sherrill, Arnold Brenden, and Donnie Anderson. Interment was in the Harrison Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home of Whiting, Iowa.
