Max L Smith

Max Lewis Smith passed away January 24, 1994 in Rodney, Iowa at the age of 59 years, 11 months and 13 days.

Max was born February 9, 1934 at Rodney, Iowa the son of Lewis and Lucy (Sulsburger) Smith. As a lifelong Rodney resident, he did general trucking in the area and was a longtime farmer and hog and cattle raiser. He married Marjorie Carlson November 9, 1952 in Smithland.

Max was a member of the Rodney United Church of Christ. He was also a director on Nagel Drainage Ditch and past member of the Cattlemen’s and Pork Producers.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; two daughters and their husbands, Julie and Earl Johnston and Joni and Bob Wright, all of Mapleton; a son and his wife, Larry and Dawn Smith of Rodney; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 27, 1994 at 2:00 p.m. in the Rodney United Church of Christ with Pastor Karen Dearchs officiating. The message in music was delivered by Joyce Krafton, organist, Wendy Johnston and Margaret Maynard, duet, sang “In The Garden”, and “How Great Thou Art”. Pallbearers were: Mark Maynard, Lewis Davis, Frank Gruber, Rich Uhl, Ronald Maynard, Jim Davis, Jim Petersen, Zeke Myer. Honorary Pallbearers were Lowell Aldrich, Don Forney, Leonard Hanson, Dwain Schmidt, Jimmy Yockey, John Hobbs, Jim McDonald, Willie Uhl, Dr. Tom Vermeersch, Roger Yockey. Interment was in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery Smithland, Iowa.

Arrangements were by the Walter-Armstrong Funeral Service, Mapleton, Iowa.
