McClatchey, 57, Succumbs After Heart Attack

Christy William McClatchey, 57, prominent Mapleton businessman, died Monday morning, November 13, at his home following a heart attack.

Mr. McClatchey was active in Masonic circles and had been a member of the Mapleton board of education for nine years.

Mr. McClatchey was born, August 4, 1904 at Steedman, Mo. and moved with his parents in 1914 to the Castana community. He married Mary A Carroll of Denison August 31, 1927. He had been engaged in the well drilling business here for many years.

Mr. McClatchey was a member of St. John’s Methodist church and its Men’s Club, Sioux City Consistory and Abu-Bekr Shrine, Knights Templar of Ida Grove and the Mapleton business club.

Survivors include the widow, three daughters, Mrs. Leonard Wodtke of Oto, Mrs. William Hamilton of Iowa Falls, and Mrs. Martin Christensen of Lombard, Illinois; three sons, Robert of Mapleton; Russell of Washington, D.C. and Richard serving in the navy in San Diego; his mother, Mrs. Melissa McClatchey of Mapleton; two sisters, Mrs. Alfred Schmid of Nokave, Mo. and Mrs. James Pullen of Whiting; two brothers, Gilmore of Manilla and Homer of Mapleton and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at St. Johns Methodist Church, with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
