Services were held December 9 at Plymouth Congregational Church in Oshkosh, Wis., for Dr. Evabelle Durham Valemy, 54, of Oshkosh, formerly of Sioux City.

The Rev. Lynn Scovil officiated. Burial was in Lake View Memorial Park at Oshkosh under the direction of Sufield Funeral Home.

Dr. Valeny died December 6 at an Oshkosh hospital after a long illness.

Dr. Valeny, who spent much of her time teaching career working with retarded persons, was Associate Professor of Special Education on the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh at the time of her death.

The former Evabelle Douglas was born in Milo, Mo. June 7, 1921. She was reared in the Onawa and Hornick, Iowa areas. She was a graduate of Hornick High School and Wayne (Neb) State College. She taught in rural schools and at Hinton, Iowa. She was active in the Elkettes while in Sioux City. She received her Master’s degree and her doctorate from University of Virginia at Charlottesville.

She operated a school for retarded children at Troy, Pa. and when she took the position at University of Wisconsin in 1969, she took with her several of her pupils, whom she reared in her home.

Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Russell (Adeline) McCandless of Whiting and Mrs. Tom (Nettie) Pilcher of Sioux City, and two brothers George W. Douglas of Jefferson, S.D. and Elbert O. Douglas of Sioux City.
