Harriett E. Johnson, age 85 of Sparks, Nevada, and formerly of Mapleton, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 19, 2001, in Sparks, Nevada.
Services were held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, at Walton’s Sparks Funeral Home in Sparks, Nevada, with Pastor Bill Chrystal of First Congregational Church of Reno officiating. Additional services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 26 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Mapleton with Pastor Shirley Textor officiating. Burial was in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland. Music for the service included “Ave Maria”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “On Eagles Wings”.
Harriett Elva Johnson was born March 24, 1916 in Carroll, Nebraska, the daughter of George H. and Cynthia M. Kraft. She graduated with the Mapleton High School class of 1933 and furthered her education by graduating from Buena Vista Teachers College in Storm Lake, Iowa. She taught in a one room school in rural Iowa. While teaching near Smithland, Iowa, she met and married Harry R. Johnson. To this union, three children were born. In 1957, Harriett moved to Reno, Nevada and was employed with Hartford Insurance for 24 years.
Those survivors left to cherish Harriett’s memory include two sons and their families, Duane and his wife, Sandy of Yreka, California and their children, Lori Van Doren and husband, Steve and their children, Jacob, Alexandra and Blake, all of Fairfield, California and Gary and his wife, Diana of Davis, California; the other son, Douglas H. Johnson of Sparks, Nevada and his sons, Brendon and Bryce, both of Los Angeles, California; Harriett’s one daughter, Darlene Stravens and her husband, Robert of Hayden, Idaho and their children, Diana Kern and her husband, Kevin, and their daughter, Danielle of Springfield, Missouri and son, Kelly Stravens and his wife, Terry of Spokane, Washington; two brothers, Gerald Kraft of Sun City, Arizona and Frank Kraft and his wife, Norma of Mapleton, Iowa and one sister, Adeline Drenkhahn, also of Mapleton, Iowa; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, Warren, Clarence and Glenn Kraft, one sister, Thelma Christianson and two infant siblings.
Pallbearers were Brendon Johnson, Steve Van Doren, Terry Kraft, Bryce Johnson, Frank W. Kraft and Jay Westendorf.
