Lee R. “Red” Adams

Lee Roy Adams, one of twelve children of Orus Oruson and Estella Marie (Wyland) Adams, was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 14, 1927. His parents and family had traveled from Onawa, Iowa to visit relatives in Chicago at the time of Le Roy’s birth. All of the Adams children had nicknames and Lee Roy became affectionately known as “Red”. He attended school in Onawa and joined the U.S. Army.

Red and Marjorie Nadine Perry were married on April 20, 1949 at the First Christian Church in Onawa. They moved to Pickstown, SD where Red worked on a dam construction project and received this training in sheet metal work. He eventually was able to join the Sioux Falls, SD Local Sheet Metal Worker’s Union. In 1953, the family moved to Omaha, Ne. where Red continued working in the sheet metal trade. He transferred his union membership to Local No. 3 in Omaha and was later joined in union membership by son Steven and grandson Jeromy. Red was especially proud to have established a three-generation union membership.

Red retired in 1978 and he and Nadine moved to Ava, Mo where he enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Red began to experience some health problems so he and Nadine decided to move to the Omaha area to be near their family. They moved to a home in Malvern, Iowa in 1991 where they have continued to live.

Red and Nadine had been married for 51 years when Red died on December 29, 2000 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. He had attained the age of 73 years, 6 months and 15 days. Red was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Oris Adams, Jr., William Adams and Earl Adams and sister, Arvilla Smith.

In addition to his wife, Nadine, Red is survived by his daughters Kathi Peterson and her husband Kevin and Pam Lippold and her husband David all of Omaha; sons Dan Adams and his wife Elizabeth of Omaha, Roger Adams and his wife Lisa of Tulsa, OK, Steven Adams and his wife Joyce of LaVista, NE and Michael Adams of Omaha; sisters Dorothy Ross of Onawa, Jessie Nelson of San Diego, Roberta Tyrrel of Pender, NE, Jean Conyers of Omaha and Gloria Isakson of San Diego; brothers Jack Adams of Omaha and Jim Adams of La Vista, NE; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
