30 September 1993Soldier, Iowa—Burdette E. Nelson 71, of Soldier died Tuesday, September 28, 1993 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Soldier Lutheran Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. at the Pearson Funeral Home in Soldier.
Mr. Nelson was born December 21, 1921 in Castana, the son of Nels and Lela (Le) Nelson. He graduated from Castana High School in 1939 and attended Iowa State University two years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946. He married Mable Larson June 27, 1946, in Omaha. The couple farmed near Soldier.
Mr. Nelson was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church and Soldier Valley American Legion Post 462. He served on the boards of Monona County Mutual , Upper Soldier Drainage District and the Soldier School. He also served on the Township and County ASCS Committee.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia Standing of Albuquerque, N.M. and Paula and her husband, Lou Roden of Wichita, Kansas; five grandchildren, Brenda Krasuski and her husband, Scott, Joel and Brent Roden, Andrea Moulder and her husband, Jeff and Ashley Standing; three great-grandchildren, Cody, Dustin and Krystal Moulder; three brothers and their wives. Lawrence and Marguerite of Mapleton, Harold and Bertha of Sloan and Dean and Cheri of Onawa; and his mother-in-law, Gertrude Larson of Soldier.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
