Woodrow Wilson Carroll, son of George and Mary Jane Carroll, was born April 11, 1913 near Castana, Iowa and died May 14 at the age of 57 years, 1 month and three days, after an apparent heart attack.

He lived with his parents for several years in the Castana and Ticonic area before the family moved to the Onawa community. He lived there until marriage. After marriage he and his wife farmed in the Onawa vicinity after which time they went to the Owego community for one year. They then came to farm in Crawford County which was 10 miles northwest of Mapleton. They farmed her for 21 years, and for the last three and one half years they farmed three miles northwest of Mapleton.

On June 16, 1937 at Ida Grove he married Gladys J. Kelly. To this union one son and two daughters were born.

He was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Mapleton, a member of the Eagles Lodge at Onawa, a director of Maple Township of the Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; one son, Earl of Greenfield, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Gloria) Shirley of Kiron, and Mrs. Meredith (Anita) Wulf of Sioux City; five brothers, Ray of Mapleton, Floyd of Sylmar, California, William of Blencoe, Allen of Montrose, Colorado and George of Roxanna, Illinois; four sisters, Mrs. A.O. Rassmussen of Ida Grove, Mrs. Lawrence Funkhauser of Whiting, Mrs. Mabel Peterson of Mapleton and Mrs. Mary McClatchey of Mapleton and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 18 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Johns Methodist Church in Mapleton.

Burial was in the Center Cemetery in Castana, Iowa.

Pallbearers were Herbert Teut, Robert Flanigan, Louis Kuchl, Clifford Reed, LeRoy Rose and Gary Thies.
