Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 27, 1974 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ at Whiting, Iowa for Mrs. Myrick Whiting, age 74, of Whiting, Iowa, who died Saturday, August 24 at an Onawa hospital after a long illness. The Rev. Thomas Guenther officiated and burial was in the Whiting Cemetery.
Mrs. Whiting, the former Marjorie Willets, was born January 7, 1900 at Castana, Iowa and married Mr. Whiting December 30, 1919 at Castana. Mr. Whiting died April 29, 1962 in Sioux City. She lived on a farm near Whiting until last year when she moved to the town of Whiting.
She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Whiting, was state delegate to the first general synod convention of the church at Yale University in 1957 and was prominent in local and state church activities.
She was a member of the Federated Women’s Club of Whiting and was active in Republican party activities on the local district and state levels.
Survivors include two sons, Myrick, Jr. of Whiting and Richard W. of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, one daughter, Mrs. Warren (Sally) Steinstra of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Ruth) church of Moneta, Iowa and Miss Genevieve Willets of Onawa, Iowa and seven grandchildren.
