22 August 1974Evelyn Daisy Lord, daughter of Harriett Vowels and Henry Lord, was born December 20, 1887 in Draycott, England and died August 13, 1974 at the Willow Dale Nursing Home at Battle Creek, Iowa. She had reached the age of 87 years 7 months and 24 days.
She was united in marriage on May 24, 1906 at Mapleton, Iowa to Ernest Durston and they farmed in the Mapleton and Castana vicinity until she and her sons moved to Battle Creek in 1942. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek and was a member of the Oak Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Durston had been employed as a practical nurse for the past 25 years in the Battle Creek area.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, one son, Clifford and one daughter, Evelyn Clark.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur of Sioux City, Everett and Warren of Battle Creek, twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and seven great—great –children.
Funeral services were held August 16, 1974 at the Presbyterian Church at Battle Creek, Iowa with Rev. Joseph Lemen of Odebolt officiating. Burial was at the Center Cemetery at Castana, Iowa.
Pallbearers were Julius Miller, Melvin Watson, Henry Brueck, Allen Federsen, Virgil Johnson and Lester Hageman.
