Castana Times
10 May 1923

Mary Tacy was born in Van Buren County, Missouri, December 18, 1846 and passed away at her home in Castana May 3, 1923 at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 15 days.

She came to Shelby County, Iowa with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jackson, at an early age. She was converted and baptized in the Latter Day Saint Church at the age of eleven years.

She was united in marriage to David Tacy at Dunlap, Iowa, in 1871. To this union 7 children were born. A baby boy preceded its mother in death years ago, as did also her husband in 1918. The remainder children are Mrs. Dexter Warren, Mapleton, Iowa; Mrs. Frank Cox, Mrs. Wm. Cole, Edward and Lewis of Castana; and Clyde of Council Bluffs. Also 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends mourn her loss.

Those who knew her best loved her most. She was a kind and loving mother, faithful to those near her never complaining or trying to cause those about her to grieve because of her sickness. She has been in poor health for years. The end came in the early morn and as she realized she was crossing the tide she still concealed it all to herself to the end.

Mr. and Mrs. Tacy made their home in and near Castana for 35 years. She was a mother who loved her home and even though she was lonely and sad since the departing of her husband in 1918, she still clung to her home and passed away where he left her.

Rev. Dunn of Mapleton conducted the funeral service at the Congregational church last Sunday afternoon in a very pleasing manner.
