Lois F. Gowan was born on April 16, 1930, in Turin, Iowa, to Ralph and Sally Anna Waugh Hunsaker. She attended Mapleton High School in Mapleton, Iowa. On May 28, 1955, she was married in Mapleton to Walter Gowan.
Lois was a homemaker and for three years she worked as a beauty operator at Younkers in Sioux City. Lois and Walter also lived in Urbandale for 23 years before moving to Kerr Hall of the United Presbyterian Home six years ago. While in Urbandale she was a member of the United Methodist Women’s organization. In Washington she was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.
She died on December 15, 2000, after several years of declining health.
She is survived by her husband, Walter; a daughter Luann and husband Matthew Olsen of Nevada, Iowa; a son, Jack Walter Gowan of Rock Island, Ill.; two grandchildren and a number of step-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by, her sisters, Iola Mae Bond of Battle Creek, Iowa and Sally Jane Green of Melvern, Kansas and brothers, Richard Hunsaker of Sioux City, Iowa and Ralph Hunsaker of Arvada, Co.
She was preceded in death by, her parents; her son, Jeff Gowan and an infant brother.
A service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2000 at the McLaren Funeral Home in West Des Moines followed by committal in Resthaven Cemetery. A long-time family friend, Rev John Squire, officiated.
