Rev. Leonard E. Westberg
Funeral services for Pastor Leonard E. Westberg were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2001 at Faith Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church in Junction City, Kansas.
Pastor Westberg passed away September 3, 2001 at Anchorage, Alaska while on an Alaskan Cruise with his wife and friends.
He was born October 10, 1925 at Turin, Iowa the son of Hans Arvid and Florence Edna (Wagner) Westberg. He grew to an adult in rural Castana, Iowa, serving in the US Navy during World War II. He resided in Houston, Texas for a number of years driving for Heron Truck Lines.
He married Darlyene Osualt in Houston, Texas on December 24, 1955.
They moved to Junction City and started the church there June of 1971, he had just completed 30 years of pastoral work with the congregation. He served as general presbyter of the United Pentecostal Church for 24 years, and was District Superintendent for the state of Kansas. He preached and taught the Gospel in many foreign countries and all over the United States from a parish of three people, his church has grown to 600 people.
Survivors include his wife Darlyene and a daughter, Marjorie D. at home. His brothers, Rev. Francis Westberg and wife Barbara of Cushing, Oklahoma, Harry Westberg and wife Leslie of St. Paul, Minnesota, one sister, Melissa Anderson of Collinsville, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arley Westberg and sister Marjorie Rousey.
General Superintendent of the W.P.C.I. Nathaniel A. Urscham officiated at the service. A number of musical selections were given with Sandra Elder as organist.
Casket Bearers and Honorary Casket Bearers were Ministers of the Faith from across the United States.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery at Junction City.
