30 November 1995Patricia L Thomas, 54, of Whiting, Iowa, formerly of Sloan, Iowa, died Saturday November 18, 1995, at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Whiting, Iowa following a long illness.
Mrs. Thomas was born November 10, 1941 at Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Leola (Bertrand) Lander. In 1960 she graduated from Sloan High School, Sloan, Iowa and then from Stewarts Beauty School in Sioux City. On January 28, 1961, she married Richard Thomas at Sloan. She owned Pats Beauty Salon in Sloan for one year before retiring due to an illness of multiple sclerosis. She has made her home at Pleasant View Nursing Home since February 1986.
She was a member of the United Congregational Church of Christ at Sloan and a former member of the Athena Chapter Order of Eastern Star #460 at Sloan. She was an avid Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include two daughters, Janean and her husband, Rick Zortman, and Kim Steinhoff, all of Whiting, Iowa; one son and his wife, Mike and Cindy Thomas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her mother, Leola Lander of Sloan; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Cori, Bobbie Jo and Tanner Steinhoff, Brooke and Brett Thomas and Amber Zortman; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father on December 11, 1981; her brother, Benjamin on February 7, 1976; a niece, Lynette; her paternal grandparents and her maternal grandparents.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 1995, at the United Congregational Church of Christ, Sloan, Iowa, with Rev. Robert W. Fritzmeier officiaiting. Shawn Walden, Minister, gave the Eulogy. The organist was Mrs. Glenn Miltenberger. A tape selection was “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and the soloist, Mr. Mike Thomas sang “Go Rest High On The Mountain”.
Honorary bearers were John Clark, Vernon Ames, Fred Linscott, Joe Marshall, Norman Westergaard, Vernon Alfredson, Robert Heinle, Wayne Copple, Gene Cook, Terry Hall, Albert Reitan and Morey Copple.
Casket bearers were Jay Kirkendahl, David Brenden, Robert Gay, Terry Johnson, LeRoy Johnson and David Alfredson.
Interment was in Sloan Cemetery, Sloan, Iowa with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
