Mrs. Irene E. Tawzer, a longtime resident of Sloan, Iowa, died on October 29, 1983, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa. Death came at the age of 75 years, three months and 29 days.

She was born on June 30, 1908 at Leedey, Oklahoma, the daughter of Wilbur E. and Effie Smiley Weir. She was married to Donald Tawzer on October 4, 1927, at Leedey. He died May 5, 1963. She had resided in the Sloan area since 1930 and lived in Onawa for two years prior to that time.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational at Sloan and a member of the Order of Eastern Star at Leedey, Oklahoma.

Survivors include one brother, George Weir of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Florence) Erlandson of Cherokee, Iowa and Mrs. Jack (Norma) Stevenson of Sloan; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Orville in 1979 and one brother, Sylvester.

Services were held on Monday, October 31, 1983, at 2:00 p.m. at the U.C.C. Congregational Church at Sloan with Rev. David Beckerdite officiating. Mrs. Glen Miltenberger, the organist played “The Lord’s Prayer”.

Bearers were Dick Stevenson, Donald Copple, David Miller, Carleton Carlson, Leonard Morey and Dan Dean.

Interment was in the Sloan Cemetery with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home of Sloan.
