Marinus Peter Johnson was born November 26, 1890 near Walnut, Iowa and died Friday, Feb. 24, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness at the age of 70 years 2 months and 28 days. Before moving to Mapleton 50 years ago he lived on farms near Ute and west of Mapleton. He married Regina Sonksen June 27, 1917. He was a member of Quarry Lodge 404 A.F. & A.M. and the county board of tax review.

Survivors include the widow; a brother, George of Soldier; three sisters, Mrs. Sidney Marsh, Mrs. Ted Marsh and Mrs. Barney Sonksen all of Mapleton.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb 27, at the United Church of Christ with Rev. E.G Otte officiating. Pallbearers were: Ralph Armstrong, Charles Butcher, Darrell Uhl, Harry Langholz, Ray McCleerey and George Hickman. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home. Masonic rites by Quarry Lodge No. 404 were held at the gravesite.
