2 December 2009ONAWA, Iowa -- Douglas W. Carlson, 53, of Onawa passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, in Jamestown, N.D., of an apparent heart attack.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Todd Owen officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Douglas Wayne Carlson was born Sept. 30, 1956, in Onawa, the son of Wayne and Elaine (Thompson) Carlson. He attended West Monona School and graduated with the class of 1975. He lived in Onawa most of his life, but he also lived in Minden, Neb., Jamestown, N.D., and Sentinel, Okla. He currently was living in Onawa and was employed at Hardsteel in Decatur, Neb.
He enjoyed keeping busy. He loved to work outside and spent a lot of his time working in the yard, the garage or projects around the house. He also liked to play pool with friends.
Survivors include his special lady friend, Cheryl Corbitt of Onawa; a daughter, Megan (Jason) Vansell of Versailles, Mo.; two sons, Eric Carlson of Versailles and Bradley Carlson of Jamestown, N.D.; three grandchildren, Michael and Jacob Vansell and Alexa Carlson, all of Versailles; his parents, Wayne and Elaine Carlson of Onawa; two brothers, Randy (Glenette) Carlson of Sentinel, Okla., and Mike (Heather) Carlson of Sioux City; two sisters, Janelle Carlson of Norfolk, Neb., and Glenda Carlson of Harlan, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews; aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Cindy Cox; a niece, Mindi Carlson; and both his maternal and paternal grandparents.
