Mrs. Edith Kelly Tillis was born June 16, 1875 at Arbuckle, West Virginia , and passed from this life in the Elmwood Home on December 23, 1967 following a long illness. She had reached the age of 92 years, 6 months and 7 days.

September 22, 1892 she was united in marriage with Samuel Tillis at Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He preceded in her death about 25 years ago.

She had been a resident of this community for about 68 years, the past four years having been spent at Elmwood.

Early in life she accepted the Christ as her Saviour and was united with the First Christian Church of Onawa. She was a very active member of the church until her health failed. She was also a member of the G.A.R. of Onawa.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. F.G. Oliver of Onawa; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Arnold K. and a daughter, Mrs. Maude McClure.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 26 at the Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa. Rev. Everett Epperson and Rev. Frank Perry officiated. Sharon and Diane Epperson sang “God Hath Not Promised”, accompanied by Mrs. Oliver Kelley at the organ.

Bearers for the service were Henry Johnston, Willard Oliver, James Craford, Clarence Mathiasen, Leo Hansen and Walter Kelly. Interment was at the Onawa Cemetery.
