Ellen J. Taylor, 98, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away at the Moss Nursing Home in Onawa on May 22, 1974, after a long illness.

She was born at Blencoe, Iowa, on January 14, 1876, the daughter of Fred and Jennie Jones Fairchild. She was married to John Taylor in 1894 at Onawa. He preceded her in death in 1929.

She was a lifetime resident of the area and was a member of the Women’s Society of the United Methodist Church in Onawa.

She is survived by three cousins, Harmon Fairchild of Peetz, Colorado, Mrs. June Kraxberger of Colorado and Doris Selleck Downing of Denver, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Jessie Fairchild and two brothers, Leonard “Kelley” Fairchild and Robert Verne Fairchild. Also Ellen was survived by Dr. Clarence Bud Martin of Sacramento, California, whom she and her sister, Jess, raised from childhood.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 1974, at the Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa with Rev. John Schlosser officiating. Clara Kelley was organist and played “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In The Garden”. Bearers were Darrell Cooper, Clarence Mathiasen, Roger Blatchford, Everett Folsom, Clifford Young and Robert Underhill. Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
