29 October 1981Mrs. Merrill Struble, Turin, Iowa, passed away at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa, on October 21, 1981. Death came at the age of 80 years 10 months and 20 days following a long illness. The past four years she had been a resident of Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa.
She was born Ruby G. Amundson in Jordan Township near Soldier, Iowa, on December 1, 1900 and was the daughter of Ole Amundson and Jeanette Ballantyne Amundson. She was reared near Soldier and lived most of her life in Monona County.
She was married to Merrill Struble on February 26, 1919, near Soldier. The couple had made their home near Turin since 1933. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Onawa. She was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the auxiliary of the former Struble-Rowland Post of the American Legion.
Survivors include her husband, Merrill of Turin; one daughter, Mrs. Leon (Rosemary) Newkirk, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; four sons, Glenn of San Clemente, California, Russell of Castana, Iowa and Marvin and Doyle both of Turin, one brother, Fred Amundson of Central Point, Oregon and 24 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Cleo in September 1943 in World War II, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 23, 1981 at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Onawa, Iowa with Elder Francis Hathaway and Elder Wilbur Mann officiating. The organist was Mrs. Wilhelmina Lundt and the soloist, Mrs. James Burow, sang, “Morning Has Broken” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.
Casket bearers were Kevin Struble, James Struble, Daniel Struble, William Struble, Paul Struble, Tom Struble, Tim Struble and Steve Struble.
Interment was in the Jordan Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
