Elmer "Beaver" Ulven 1905-1984

Elmer “Beaver” Ulven was born December 19, 1905, in Soldier, Iowa and passed from this life in the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa, on February 29, 1984. Death came at the age of 78 years, two months and 10 days.

He attended the school in Soldier and made his home in Soldier until coming to Onawa at the age of 21. He chose Auto mechanics as his vocation and served in this work until retirement in 1968. “Beaver” was a good mechanic, employed by the Olson Chevrolet Co. for many years.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran Church. Beaver was a 50 year member of the Eagles Lodge in Onawa.

Survivors include his one son, Rodney in Onawa; one daughter, Mrs. Leland (Cathy) Rickabaugh of Whiting; one brother, Herman also of Onawa; five sisters, Mrs. Alice Solberg and Mrs. Evelyn Seaton both of Moorhead, Iowa; Mrs. Earl (Cora) Howard of Dunlap, Iowa; Mrs. William (Gilma) Kerchoff of San Rafael, California and Mrs. Anna Winters of Elk Point, S.D.; four grandchildren, a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Virgil, Charles and two infants, Clark and Clarence and an infant sister.

Funeral services were held at 10:00, Saturday, March 3, 1984, at the Pearson Funeral Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. The organist was Mrs. Edna Hyatt and the solist, Mrs. Larry Warren, sang, “Whispering Hope” and “Just As I Am”.

Honorary bearers were Garry Ellison, Gerald Shaffer, Don Waples, Rogene Eisele, Orville Eisele, Irv Gleason and Dan Benjamin.

Active Casket Bearers were Lyle Ross, Raymond Olson, Art Heisler, Joe Jackson, Earl Rickabaugh and Joe Feldhacker.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
