1 January 1969Brady Riddle, 72, Castana passed away Wednesday, December 24 at the Battle Creek nursing home after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Church in Ute with Everett Epperson of Onawa giving the sermon. A duet of Jolene and Cindi Hansen furnished the vocal numbers and Mrs. Dale Winger was at the organ.
Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery at Ute under the direction of Walter Funeral Home. The grandsons were pallbearers.
Brady C. Riddle, son of Charles and Anna Riddle, was born March 1, 1897 in Noble County, Ohio. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of four years. They farmed near Ute. He was married to Ernestine Ridley March 30, 1918 at Mapleton. This union was blessed with two daughters and five sons. After marriage the Riddles farmed in the Ute and Mapleton communities. Five years ago they moved in to the town of Castana.
Mr. Riddle was a member of the Christian Church in Ute and was a faithful member, serving as Trustee for the many years and also as a Deacon. He was always active in his community and served as trustee of St. Clair township. He won the first W.G. Skelly Award for outstanding achievement in agriculture. He was instrumental in establishing Western Iowa Experimental Farm. He was also active in 4-H work and was a member of the National Farmers Organization.
Mr. Riddle’s one enjoyment was to travel. He was always ready to stop and talk to one about farming and to give a helping hand if one ask him for it. He was a very devoted husband and father and highly respected by all his friends.
At the time of his death he had reached the age of 72 years, 9 months and 23 days.
Survivors include four sons, Charles and Loren of Castana, Leonard of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Myron of Ute: two daughters, Mrs. Elvin (Hazel) Hanson of Castana and Mrs. Neva Olson of Douglas, Arizona; one brother, Fred of Charter Oak; two sisters, Mrs. W.C. (Mary) Knutson of Soldier and Mrs. Harry (Gladys) Allen of Roundup, Montana; 23 grandchildren and 21 great- grandchildren and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, two grandchildren, brothers and sisters
